The Canucks' hopes for the Stanley Cup don’t hinge on these early games but rather on one man: Thatcher Demko. I know, I know what you’re all thinking, but hear me out. When he’s healthy, Demko transforms Vancouver from a playoff hopeful into a legit contender. Sure, he’s been recovering from that popliteus injury behind his knee, but when he’s back on the ice and firing on all cylinders, the Canucks become a team to watch.

Demko is the kind of goalie who can turn a game on its head. Remember the 2020 playoffs? He came in cold against the Golden Knights and practically stole a series, stopping 123 of 125 shots in three games. That wasn’t just luck; it was a masterclass in goaltending. When Demko is locked in, he turns the net into a fortress, making it tough for opposing teams to score. That’s the kind of edge a team needs when the stakes are high.

Having a healthy Demko behind the defense lets the Canucks take risks up front. They can play their fast-paced, aggressive style without worrying about giving up easy goals. It’s really a game-changer. While Pettersson and Hughes take care of the puck on the offense, Demko gives the team the confidence to play freely. They know they have a rock-solid last line of defense ready to make clutch saves.

Now, let’s be real: every Cup run needs contributions from all players, but goaltending is crucial. The Canucks have learned this lesson the hard way in past seasons. If Demko can get back to his prime form, he’ll elevate this team beyond what fans have seen in recent years.

But here’s the kicker: the clock is ticking. The Canucks need Demko back on the ice and healthy to make a real push for the Cup. His popliteus injury is something to keep an eye on, but he’s feeling confident in his rehab and making progress. He’s hoping to be back sooner rather than later.

As we gear up for the season opener, Canucks fans should be keeping a close watch on number 35. Demko isn’t just a player; he’s the difference between an early playoff exit and an unforgettable run for the Stanley Cup. Let’s hope he’s back for the season opener!

Comment System How-To

New NM, new comment system. Still uses words and stuff. Hover over the icons to see what they do.

The most vital function is image embedding. Paste the link to the image in the comment box. When the comment is posted, the image appears. Most of  the time.

NOTE: Remove the non-image name jibberish. If the image link has any stuff after the file extension - usually a ? with directives like: woo.gif?size=480 blah blah - delete up to and including the ? - simples.

GIF it up for Westy! Or still life in rum.
NOTE: Comments refresh every 30 seconds. Not fast enough for most of our lightening round contestants. We are working to increase the refresh speed. Just... not working too hard... because NM labour guidelines. Thanks for being patient!
