Status report

Hyman, a top-line forward, is listed as day to day, but Oilers coach Mike Babcock said, “I think that means two weeks.” Babcock said Hyman was injured in the final preseason game against the Calgary Flames but played through it in a season-opening 6-5 overtime loss to the Canucks on Tuesday. … Nugent-Hopkins, a center who was injured at the end of practice Monday, was placed on injured reserve Wednesday and Samanski was recalled from Bakersfield of the American Hockey League. … McDavid and Draisaitl, who played most of the preseason together, were reunited during the morning skate after starting the season opener on separate lines following the injury to Nugent-Hopkins. … Levi is making his Oilers regular-season debut. … The Canucks are dressing the same lineup they used Tuesday.
