Great Tanking News! Last Place Secured Against Almost Any Interloper!
Good news... Nucks score 2 PP goals! That's all we needed. Almost.
Here's what we learned:
We're in the home stretch. Actually we're at the end of the home game stretch... one more to go until the Nucks travel to exotic rinks to lose more games.
Sure, it would have been nice to beat the little Ducklings, the little quackers are 1st in the Pacific while having less points than the 2nd WC in the east. Beating them would have been nice.
But this Nucks season is not nice. Not at all. Better to secure the basement from any late season droop by any Raggedy team.
A shame Anaheim won. I kinda want the season to end with the top team in the Pacific having fewer points than the second wild card in the West. Let the internet BURN! ๐ #Canucks

Still... it was a more exciting loss than the previous boring loss on the weekend. Game was closer than it appeared. Nucks only lost by one goal. And a Footey.
This season's team have set AND now exceeded the ALL TIME record for home losses in the entire history of poor Nucks home games.
Tanks for the memories!
Period 1
Nucks get an early PP. And score! Not making it up. Scored by DeBrusk! DeReally.
In fact, the Nucks carried their mighty one goal lead past the Ducks into the 1st inter.
For real. There were witnesses in the ROG. Thousands of them. Hopefully with comp'd tickets.
#Canucks PP wizardy scores the leading and only goal of the 1st. If only they could skip the dreaded ROG period and move on to the Footey period we so enjoy.

Period 2
Nucks, after days of long change practice, Nucks put it to work.
Now's the time for all that long-change practice to shine!
-- Thursday
Worked well. For about 5 minutes.
Then, not after a bad change, just poor defensive coverage. And some iffy goaliating a fowl goal is scored.
lankinen sitting back in his net on that goal. made himself as small as possible. easy goal for killorn. #canucks
— jbearz.bsky.social (@jbearz.bsky.social) March 24, 2026 at 8:14 PM
Tied 1-1.
Until a sea of Granlunds poured across the goal line. Or some equally unpleasant metaphor.
2 quick ones against. a tale old as time. 2nd period blues. #canucks
— jbearz.bsky.social (@jbearz.bsky.social) March 24, 2026 at 8:16 PM
20th time this season the #Canucks have allowed multiple goals in the second period. They have allowed at least one in 49 of 70 games this season.
— Adam Kierszenblat (@adamkblat.bsky.social) March 24, 2026 at 8:16 PM
But still... the Nucks PP gets another chance to play catchup.
And they do. Ronnie fires a shot. Breaks an ankle. Passes to Brock. Brock scores!
Gooooooooeeeeeellll!!!!!! #Canucks

Yay my favourite, a Boeser goal. #Canucks
— Terry & dog ๐ฆฎ...๐จ๐ฆ๐ (@aweebitdaft.bsky.social) March 24, 2026 at 8:28 PM
With his goal, Brock Boeser passes Tony Tanti and into sole possession of ninth all-time in #Canucks history with 471 points

#Canucks Elias Pettersson is the first player from the 2017 NHL Draft class to hit 500 career regular-season points.
— Adam Kierszenblat (@adamkblat.bsky.social) March 24, 2026 at 8:28 PM
Milestone for Petey. Congrats.
While it was nice to see Petey hit a milestone, woulda been nice to see him hit the net as well.
Elias Pettersson the Forward now has 300 assists and 500 points in his career.
-- Thursday
However.... Douglas has 3 SOG... Petey has 0. Remember when he had 4 shots a game?
-- jimmi
Yeah, it's a shame. We'll have to make do with points.
-- Thursday
Or teach Douglas how to deke a goalie with his long, long reach.
Tie 2-2 after 2. That's not much of a curse....
#Canucks escape the dreaded 2nd with a tie... and a 3-on-5 PK to finish off in the Footey period. Is that so bad?
— NucksMisconduct (@nucksmisconduct.bsky.social) March 24, 2026 at 8:43 PM
But for that extra Nucks PK time that carries over into the 3rd.
Period 3
Guess what sea scored the Ducking PP goal? Yes, that one.
Nucks down 3-2 without a worry on the ice.
No really. The Nucks - worst team in the league - were putting pressure on the best team in the Pacific.
And the water birds turnover the puck in the O-zone to Kane. No, really. He has a partial breakaway and shoots. Puck rebounds out to the trailing DOC who injects it into the net.
3-3 tie!
O'Connor refuses to let Boeser out of his sight for the Canucks goal lead. Three guys tied at 17, and two of them are on the team!
-- Thursday
All tied up and the ROG is ready to watch another Canadian team win on the night.
But then, this is spring 2026 which isn't the best spring ever.
Just after stopping a Ducking breakaway, Lanky is surprised by a shot that Petey would've stopped.
4-3 Ducklings with 6 minutes to go.
3 minutes away from the Footey #Canucks?
— NucksMisconduct (@nucksmisconduct.bsky.social) March 24, 2026 at 9:26 PM
Not if EP40, the goalie can stop it.
And he does. One wonders if he could change positions mid-career.
Petey save! #Canucks

Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, the Footey was scored and the Nucks lose another close game to ensure a tight grip on the basement door.
Nucks shot double the shots from last game and only got outshot 34-30. Close(ish) game.
Still it's a 5-3 loss for the Canucks in the ROG. Another regulation loss... to add to their stats.
#Canucks Kierszenstat of the Game: Vancouver record it's 41st regulation loss of the season. That is the fifth most in franchise history through 70 games.
— Adam Kierszenblat (@adamkblat.bsky.social) March 24, 2026 at 9:35 PM
Only the 5th? Got some work to do.
— NucksMisconduct (@nucksmisconduct.bsky.social) March 24, 2026 at 9:37 PM
I canโt remember a more disappointing Canuck season. Invoice been a fan since 1975. That includes the Bill Laforge disaster.
— Steve Tripp ๐จ๐ฆ (@trippsteve.bsky.social) March 24, 2026 at 11:06 PM
OBSERVATIONS:
With a little more luck, a little sharper goaltending and some sharper shooting, the Nucks could have beat the Ducks. But they didn't.
I just want to get to the point when we mathematically secured the last place in the league. Then at least I can start rooting for a win.
Should be close to that, maybe next week?

Players of Interest:
Some pondering about Pete.
#Canucks Elias Pettersson post-game: "I mean, I'm always ready with the E bug or whatever it's called, No, but I was a soccer goalie growing up. So those instincts still kick in those moments."

Petey's career point pace shows some slow down.
Games it took Elias Pettersson to reach each milestone: First 100 points - 103 games 100 to 200 points - 127 games 200 to 300 points - 76 games 300 to 400 points - 84 games 400 to 500 points - 143 games #Canucks

GAME STATS

COMMENTING OUT LOUD
Powerplay Pete making a big point.
DOC with the game diagnosis.
Footey 'tough start' gabbing about the technicalities.
Some pretty dense technical info... maybe seeing a part written down will make it easier to understand.
#Canucks Adam Foote was asked about starting Lankinen for a fourth-straight game instead of going with Nikita Tolopilo. Here is the part of his answer that had to do with the goaltending decision:

Well, that was fucking enlightening.
— Jeremy Bearimy (@mrbearimy.bsky.social) March 24, 2026 at 10:53 PM
One wonders if half or any of the players can keep up with Professor Footey's dissertations on the momentous multi-zone molecular rotation of molluscacidal deployments entering the woven weave, like, you know, we discussed managing it moving forward.
One more ROG game to go. Thursday LA is in town to win enough to get Kopi one last playoff series against the tOil. NHL hockey is just that harsh.
