Great Tanking News! Last Place Team Still Last - but it was close

Good news... Canucks win an unneeded loser point. Oh well...

Here's what we learned:

As noted in the game thread nonsense intro, the unrestrained, untraded Nucks were posed to win all their remaining games. Or at least they wanted to.

Even after discarding all those players that were holding them back, the leftover roster that was good enough to beat the 28th, now 30th ranked team, couldn't get past the 27th place Jets.

But the Nucks made the Jets work very hard for what could have been an easy Jetski win, but for Lanky who played a great game, posting a .914SV%.

Just exciting enough!

Period 1

Canucks score 1st in the 1st on their 1st shot of the game. Karlsson startled Helly with a wicked shot top corner. Setup from Teddy and Sassy. 4th liner goal. Best line all night and setup the 2nd Nucks goal as well. Did they discard enough overpaid players?

The Jets hold possession for the first 7+ minutes but it's the #Canucks who open the scoring as Linus Karlsson gets his 12th of the campaign.

Nucks leading 1-0 after 1 and Lanky looking good. Jets outshot Nucks 10-5.

Period 2

The Winter Jets hit the afterburners and dominate the worst team in the league all period.

And yet the worst team with seemingly the best goalie didn't collapse. 2nd period curse is over. At least on the road.

Or is it?

At 19:48 of the period Scheifele reenables cursing.

Period 3

Nucks game theme was score early and often. Got half of it spot on.

33 seconds in while Teddy and Karlsson are grounding the Jets, Öhgren hops onto the ice, onto the pass and blasts it through Helly and back.

Nucks LEADING by a single goal very early 3rd. ONE single goal.

And keep the inviolate lead all period.

Until Sassy takes a cross-checking penalty on DeMelo, who had been our fav Jet all game after he crunched Kane into the boards.

While the Nucks PK managed to stop the roar of the Jets PP in the 2nd, this time skill and timing were too much for even Lanky to stop. Vilardi scored on a wicked backhander.

Canucks pk gonna nucks pk. That was a pretty goal though.

2-2 tie with Jets getting outshot 10-8 by the worst team in the league.

OT

Do you know how many wins the Jets have in OT? It's a lot. How many do the Nucks have? Not many.

Didn't even get within 3 minutes of Lanky time.

Petey got a breakaway on Hell... and Hell said no. Puck went the other way and D-pleted couldn't get back. Jets break in 3 on 2 and Morrisey pots a perfect bank shot off Ronnie's skate and past Lanky.

Jets win 3-2 at home. Good for them.

Petey can't buy a goal! Morrisey can though.

Ah, that would have been nice for Pettersson the Forward. A deflected goal by Morrissey ends it instead.

Nucks got close to a 2nd consecutive win. Perhaps a little close.

Doesn't matter. Nucks keep the 70s shag in the basement clean and barely soiled.

OBSERVATIONS:

Nucks played a good road game on the 2nd of the B-2-B - kept the 27th team on edge all game.

Players of Interest:

• 4th liners worked their hard working mojo all game.
• Lanky played his best game of the season - deserved the win - even if the Nucks didn't.
• Petey appears to be stuck on his longest goaless streak.

I think someone put a curse on EP40 the day after he signed his big contract. You knew when he didn't score the Jets were gonna end it. Totally jinxed. He needs to get the curse lifted by October. #Canucks

With the TDL in the rear view, the roster set, the remainders are playing better. Speaking of remainders... only 20 games remain. With this grueling 2 game road tour complete, Nucks head back to the ROG for an 8 game homestand.

Starts on Monday with the Sens in town on Monday for a 6PM Pacific game. How many will the Nucks win? Hopefully more than zero and less than 2. Gotta keep the basement clear of interlopers.
