GAME #62 RECAP - Nucks WIN 6-3 On The Road!

March 6, 2026
- jimmi

Great Tanking News! Last Place Team Still Last

Good news... Canucks win their 1st road of the new year. Just a little later than we might have hoped for.

Here's what we learned:

With their 1st game after the TDL, we expected a win - despite the Nucks being over-matched by the 28th place powerhouse. Hmmm... let's skip that part.

The leftover Canucks not only won their 3rd game of 2026, they also kept the windy city streak going. 8th straight time Nucks have beat the little fawkers in their windy barn.

Exciting!

Wow. So the problem all along was JT, Demko, Suter, Quinn, Sherwood, Garland, Kane, and Kampf. We're gonna finish 29th aren't we? Hawks will get the top pick. #Canucks

Period 1

Canucks give up the 1st goal to the Fawks on their 1st shot of the game. To be fair it was a lucky bounce off the back boards that passed to Donut-o.

Didn't matter.

The Road Canucks, the post TDL Canucks - not to be confused with ROG Nucks - returned the favour with a goal of their own minute later on a hard working shift. DOC with the tip. Assists to Willi and M-Petey.

A minute later, Zeev finds some space puts a shot on net that Debrusk tips to the go ahead goal.

And the Nucks love the windy city lead so much, they extend it. M-Petey goes unchained giraffe through 4 fawking defenders to pass to Teddy in the paint who pots his 36th goal of the year. Or multiple years. I forget.

OMG! M-Petey going chaos and Teddy scores! #Canucks lead 3-1... in the 1st period!

Nucks leading 3-1 and looking good. Until our former Miki puts a puck past Tolo. Dang it!

Aww! Mikheyev remembers us!

Guess he should, what with cashing his Canucks paycheques this season.

-- Thursday

Canucks win the 1st period 3-2!

Wooo(ish)! New (old & young) look #Canucks lead the little fawkers 3-2 after 1. Can keep up with any team in the league (at 28th place or less)

Period 2

Different city, still a problematic period for the Canucks.

However, Nucks hang onto the one goal lead for the whole period.

Except for the last minute.

Farkin' Fawkers tie the game with 43 seconds to go.

The Second Period Curse continues.

...joining the First and Third Period Curses.

-- Thursday

Tied up 3-3 after 2.

In the inter, the sportynet panel talk about the remains of the TDL day. Versteeg calls out Alvin for disrespecting his players.

NM would agree with that assessment. Or at least one of their disgruntled.

Alvin is to NHL GMs what Footey is to NHL coaches. Incompetency starts at the top. With a side of word salad and refried excuses.

Period 3

FUN FACT: The Fawks PK is the best in the league. No, really.

When the Nucks PP gets their 4th oppourtunity of the game, our expectations of getting a road PP goal were low.

But not when Brock is swinging high. Pots a PP goal out of midair!

OUTTA MIDAIR!

With, of course, Linus Karlsson on the power play! Because why the hell not!

-- Thursday

Nucks LEADING by a single goal early 3rd. ONE single goal.

And even better, seem to be determined to keep it. Thwarting all the little Fawkers all the time.

Except for that one moment on clumsy Nucks buffoonery as Ronnie trips over Tolo's stick, knocking the quite important goalie stick away from our very important goalie. Fawks pounce while Tolo is out of position - but new hire Marzipange can't beat the prone Tolo. So, another sneaky Fawker kicks the puck into the net. Fortunately, this isn't the playoffs and doesn't count.

#Canucks last place team defending clown style is saved by a kicking motion from the 28th place team. That's fair.

We gotta get that W at the draft lottery.... reward for watching this kind of hockey

With barely a couple minutes remaining, the home team empties their net. So speedy Sassy can fill it!

5-3 Nucks.

With a minute to go and that Bedard kid is darting all over the ice. Doesn't matter. Brock pots the 2nd EN with 15 seconds to go.

Canucks WIN 6-3! On the road!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!! #Canucks win their first road game of 2026! On only the 6th day of the new year. Plus a couple months.

Sure, the Tankaristas weren't happy, but getting that 1st road win of 2026 was worth it.

I haven't watch a #Canucks game for quite some time. I did tune it tonight to see if they could beat the lowly #BlackHawks. It wasn't pretty and they were sloppy at times, they came out with a W in what seems like forever. Maybe with the trade deadline behind them, they can play more relaxed.

OBSERVATIONS:

Nucks played a near perfect road game - but for those non-perfect parts. A good and rare win. Just don't get too many of them. Save that for the Blues.

Players of Interest:

  • M-Petey was both smart defensively AND an offensive threat. Just like we knew he could be...
  • R2 was back and winning all the critical faceoffs - but one.
  • Good to see Sassy back and getting rewarded with his speedy sass.
  • Brock got 2 goals! A PP and the EN.

Bonus #Canucks Kierszenstat of the Game: With his goal, Brock Boeser hits the 15 goal mark for ninth time in his career. That ties Trevor Linden for the third-most 15+ goal seasons in franchise history.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

Shortie and Dave living the big windy winning life on the road.

GAME STATS

COMMENTING OUT LOUD

Teddy stays for PK and scoring duties! Also being accountable - unlike his GM.

M-Petey plays so well he gets a presser!

Footsey staying with the tough starts.

All the TDL tension is over. The moves PA made were both expected and kinda meh. We can look forward to when he's moved for a professional, accountable GM.

We can celebrate this road win like it's the 1st one of the new year.

But not for long. Nucks in Winterpeg tomorrow afternoon to get the tank back in the snow tracks. No streaking, please.

New NM, new comment system. Still uses words and stuff. Hover over the icons to see what they do.

The most vital function is image embedding. Paste the link to the image in the comment box. When the comment is posted, the image appears. Most of  the time.

NOTE: Remove the non-image name jibberish. If the image link has any stuff after the file extension - usually a ? with directives like: woo.gif?size=480 blah blah - delete up to and including the ? - simples.

GIF it up for Westy! Or still life in rum.
