Great Tanking News! Last Place Team Still Loses

Good news... HOGZ SCORED! WOOO!

Here's what we learned:

Nucks played well - other than their start in the 1st and most of the 2nd. In fact, and not making it up, Nucks led after the 1st despite giving up a PP less than a minute in.

Much better game without what's his name on the ice. No, not Myers.

Canucks PK goes to work for less than a minute. Canes score!

From there the Nucks gave up 12 shots while only recording 1 shot in the first 14 minutes. Looked to be a long, long night.

Lanky wasn't having a good game. Gave up a couple goals. Footey pulls Lanky after the 4th Canes goal.

With Tolo in net, he gave up a goal on the 1st shot he faced.

And then... the Canes take a penalty and take another penalty while on the PK. Shockingly, the Nucks PP was looking quite good. Crisp passing pulled the defenders out of position and Rossie could make cross goal mouth pass he wanted in the 1st. Brock gets the pass and swats it into the near empty net. Wooo!

With the fugly period complete, Nucks get to finish off their last minute of the late PP. Don't score but, keep pushing the Canes. The Canes, the best NHL team in the new year. And the worst team in the league in 2026 are pushing back.

Nucks are trailing by a single goal mid 3rd. ONE single goal.

And it looks like they will score again and maybe even pick up that unwanted loser point.

With barely a couple minutes remaining, Teddy realizes the predicament. Either Nucks get a tie or a Footey against. Decisions. Split second decisions. He takes a boarding penalty to relieve the pressure.

Nucks lose 6-4, but played way better than last game.

Entertaining after two, but MAN the #Canucks need to work on those second periods! They have not been kind. A goal from Höglander, a far better looking power play, and Tolopilo still looks pretty good out there. And the kids are still giving us some push. They'll improve after the trade deadline.

OBSERVATIONS:

Nucks played a perfect tank game and lost. With energy and dignity.

Players of Interest:

• HOGZ! Finally off the schnied.
• Brock got a PP goal!
• 3 point night for Ronnie!
• Petey looked way better on his new line - had 2 assists.

It will be stupid to trade Petey on Friday. He needs at least a shot with McKenna or Stenberg. He either takes off with them or contributes to another tank year. If we get Verhoeff then you consider trading him as he needs someone on offense to elevate his game. We don't have anyone now. #Canucks

We knew this game wouldn't be fun to watch. And it actually was very fun to watch - other than the usual collapse in the 2nd.

Nucks did bounce back from their effortless loss in the last game. Even better, the basement is a safer place and yet has a little light peeking through the blackout curtains.

The last game before the TDL. On Friday these Canucks - or the remaining ones - are in the Windy City to offer sheet Bedard. Or just play his team. Could this game be the start of a 10 game Nucking win streak?

We sure hope not. A single win would be sufficient to keep our false hope candle lit for another week.
