NOT Great Tanking News! Canucks Peeked Out The Basement Door!
Good news... WON A GAME! In the ROG! Woooooooo!
Here's what we learned:
Can't lose them all. Is that so bad?
No, no it's not. With the 6th home win of the season, the Nucks start a new ONE game win streak. Exciting!
Since it's only the 2nd win in 15 games, the tank is secure in its lossy armoury. Win-win!
This is a win to savour. Just like the last one. And this was a better win. Because they did NOT give up ANY Goals Against. Inconceivable!
Unlike last game and most others like it, Canucks were playing excellent team-D. Didn't see a single cross-slot pass from the little Ducklings all game. Sure, some mistakes were made, but Tolo was there to cover for them.
However, as Tolo was in protocol after getting knocked over at the end of the 1st, Lanky played a minute and a bit with one save - off Myers' skate - for reasons.
Doesn't matter. 1st Nucks shutout of the season. Yolo Tolo!

Period 1
Nucks didn't score. Didn't give up a goal.
Preserved the tie!
#Canucks are winning after 1! Didn't give up the tie!
— NucksMisconduct (@nucksmisconduct.bsky.social) January 29, 2026 at 7:48 PM
Tied in shots too with 9 each.
Period 2
Nucks didn't score a goal. Didn't give up one either.
Tie continued after 40 minutes. Flucking Ducks were greedier on the shot clock, 14-8.
Thats all for the 2nd- No score is #BetterThanLosing! #Canucks π π π

Period 3
You might be wondering if the tie would hold through the 3rd, past OT into Lanky time.
Wonder no more. It didn't. But took another 10 minutes of tie time.
After blowing a 2-on-1 with DOC earlier in the game, DeBrusk got a sneaky, bouncy pass to DOC who whipped the bouncy puck past Tolstoy - for the non-stoic GWG! Woooooo!
Drew O'Connor destroys the chance of a 0-0 score going into the shootout as he puts the #Canucks up 1-0

The DOCtor is in. Fantastic pass by Jake DeBrusk to set up the one-timer. #Canucks

ROG was going nuts! NM thread was already nuts and going further. So far we can't reveal at this time until the NM medical staff has run the concussion protocols.
This unexpected turn of the scoreboard puts the home team into uncharted Nucking territory.
Preserving the one goal lead late in the 3rd..
#Canucks play a style they haven't used most of the season. Defending a one goal lead.
— NucksMisconduct (@nucksmisconduct.bsky.social) January 29, 2026 at 9:24 PM
And preserve the lead, they do.
Even better... the visiting Fowl pull Tolstoy and play for the Footey or the tie. They already lost the tie earlier, so why bother?
We don't know.
Even scarier for our pitter-pattering Nucking hearts, Gnarly takes a slashing call in the last couple minutes. That's great.
Garland with a sneaky little slash there. Not sneaky enough, but still.
Now the Canucks can't ice the puck.

The fluffing Ducks get a 6-on-4 PP. Yikes!
But again, the perfect all-game Nucks PK keep them off the card. Even better, Teddy nets the EN!
HEY, TEDDY!
Three goals in five games. Heck, who needs to look for another centre?

A certain win in the ROG!
Your Vancouver Canucks shutout the Disney Ducks 2-0.
#Canucks WIN In The ROG! Woooooooooooooo!!!

#Canucks Kierszenstat of the Game: Tonight is the seventh time in franchise history Vancouver has recorded a shutout against the Ducks. It is also the first time the Canucks have picked up a 2-0 shutout against Anaheim.

This is strange, but a few hours before this game I was thinking about how horrendous our defense was lately. There is an old saying in hockey "you cannot teach a player to score, but can teach him how to defend". And I thought that at some point they will HAVE to learn, and they will learn how to do that. There is no way that this ineptitude will go on for long.
And after the first period I saw this dream of mine came true. Our defense was a 180 from the last game. They were good! Then one more period of defensive perfection!
And finally, same thing happened in the 3rd (except Garland's stoopid penalty!)
The Ducks had no solution against our pefect defense. It was flawless. Here's a fun thought. Foote knows how to defend. How about doing something that is achievable even for this handicapped team: teach every player how to defend. Teach the team how to defend. Make this the one and only goal of the rest of this season. Not to win. Not to score. Just defend. The identity of this team. 0:0 after two periods. Then it's a coin toss.
The great thing about the perfect defensive structure is that individually, the players have a smaller role. But they do play that role to perfection. Just ask the Devils from the late 90's and early 2000's. And Jacque Lemaire. I hated watching them because they managed to shut down every game. It was almost unwatchable. For the opponent, that is.
Foote should make the team watch this game again, as a teachable moment. Focus 100% on defense, and the scoring will emerge from that with no effort. Just keep teaching the kids team defense.

OBSERVATIONS:
Nucks 1st Shutout WIN of the season! In the ROG!
Players of Interest:
And by the way, it's official: Tolopilo is our #1 goalie. Not even close.
-- Atty
In a year everything has gone wrong we can't even get a shutout right for Tolopilo. #Canucks

Ducks got be embarrassed to be shutout by the 2026 #Canucks. A win every now and then doesn't hurt.
— Joshua Rey (@joshuarey.bsky.social) January 29, 2026 at 9:43 PM
Maybe we're not quite ready to start planning the parade from our basement suite... but still...
#Canucks conceivably could have a two-game win streak after Saturday as the #Laffs come to town after getting whipped in Seattle.

GAME STATS

COMMENTING OUT LOUD
Yolo Tolo! Shutout win!
DeBrusk enjoying a winning presser.
DOC scores the GWG and a presser.
Footsey feeling better about his fancy d-zone coverage teaching.
Not a good Nucking game. It was a great Nucking game! 1st shutout of the season. It takes a team to play as a team.
However, Nucks have to play the biggest game of the month against the Most Important (and struggling) Team in the Universe on Saturday afternoon.
Go Canucks!
