Good News... Canucks Get A Point!
Bad news... Didn't get 2 points.
After last night's battle against the BJs and inept/corrupt reffing, Nucks had to take on the best team in the league. A team that cooked, roasted and burned the Oil 9-1.
Not happening in the ROG. Nucks didn't rollover when Big Nate scored twice in the 1st. In fact, the Nucks bounced back to outshoot the Avs 16-9 in the 1st. One of those shots was a beautiful, ugly goal by Karlsson.
WOOOO LINUS!!!!! Geez, it was ugly, but that seems to have been what was needed.
Oh, actually the goal was really pretty...but the scramble before hand ...

In the 2nd, Nucks blow open the game and take a commanding 2-2 into the 3rd. Sort of. Nucks forecheck was giving Avs D some fits. And fittingly, it was Kief the Thief who steals a turnover and pops it 5-hole for the PWG (period winning goal).

Well... maybe just borrow McK for a few Nucking powerplays. By the end of the 2nd Nucks PP had gone 0 for 4, while Avs - supposedly the 27th ranked PP - had gone 1 for 1. Also note Nucks had 4 powerplays while the Avs only 1, so you know league parody will have to adjust.
In the 3rd, the Avs push right out of the gate. Score in 1st 30 seconds. 3-2 Avs.
And as we noted a paragraph ago, the Avs are on the PP, compliments of Kane. Except it doesn't result in the result the refs had planned for. O'Connor scores a shortie! 3-3 for all.
Since that Avs PP was a bust, refs make a call on Willy, probably his 1st NHL penalty.

Refs are happy. Avs are happy, their bottom 5 PP has gone 2 for 3 in the game.
The refs have done their job. Their work is finished. Even if overhead slashes happen. They're off the clock.

Nucks aren't that happy. But Kogs is cranky with Huggie - cross-checks him and refs, the anguished refs, they don't want to... but have to make the call.
And the Nucks 5th PP of the game has to score. And does!
EP40 wins the draw. Brock waits for Gnarly to draw Burns away from the lane. Then shoots a shot pass to DeBrusk to tip for DeTie!

Pretty sure Lanky wanted to get it over the OT line to his cozy place, the shootout.
But not to be, as the Nucks didn't ever get possession and Lanky couldn't recover from a bouncy rebound and the Avs win 5-4 in OT.

Taking a point off the best team in league isn't the worst thing that can happen. Ask tOil fans.
Nucks kept fighting all game long and might have won if for something something.
OBSERVATIONS:
Big effort against a big fast elite team. 7 Canucks got on the scoreboard. And Huggie was awesome. Whenever he faces Makar, he raises his game. EP40 didn't score, didn't get a point, but had 8 shot attempts and put 4 shots on net. Keep on shooting in the $11.6M world!

Be nice if the Nucks PP could be consistently as effective as the 27th ranked PP. Also be good if the Nucks PK was more like last season's top 5 PK.
