Great News! Canucks Set A Record! 1st NHL Team To 16 Losses!
Bad news... Also lead the league in the most goals against.
Here's what we learned: Footey lies when says this isn't how this team plays. 30 games of evidence says Nucks defend poorly despite the claim of a solid defensive system.
The Canucks outplayed and outshot the Wings early. As we learned in the Wooly game, not a good sign.
Such a not good sign, the Wings score the GWG on their 3rd shot of the game. A goal from vintage player, James VanWinkle who was unattended out front, because Nucks defensive breakdown system. Also... Lanky was a bit slow getting over with his left pad.
In case you missed the really sad part, the Wings won the game with a single goal in the 1st period. Of course, the Nucks were facing a known menace, Gibson, who has stifled, stiffed and stuffed the Nucks for decades.
Question: How many times has Gibson shut out the #Canucks? 10? 100? More?

Of course, 57 year old Gibson has struggled this season with a .870 SV%. Until he is put in the Nucks goalie rejuvenation machine - otherwise known as the visitor's net.
League stats record this as Gibson's 25th shutout. 124 of them against the Canucks.
The Wings lead 1-0 and the game is over after 1, despite or... because the Nuck won the shot clock 11-6.
#Canucks dominate the 1st period, then give up a sloppy goal, squandering all that effort….a hard team to watch

wtf is M Peterson doing there? Can see Myers already out of play on boards and follows him in to leave net from vacant. M-Peterson has been ugly this year #Canucks

The 2nd Wings goal in the 2nd - sorry to keep describing only Wings goals - not my choice. Anyhow, the 2nd Wings goal was a brilliant setup from Sandin-Pellikka - a long-winded name that has been mentioned in Huggie trade gossip. Anyhow, Mr. Compound-Name passed to Copp, who was unpoliced in front of Lanky, because.... Nucks luck reasons and defensive zone system.
The next Wings goal - wasn't Lanky's fault as it was tipped. And yet... all the tipped Nucks shots were stopped by Gibson. Hockey, like life, isn't fair.
I guess our supposed scorers need empty nets to score these days. We should not be down 3 this game. #Canucks

Wings have the insurmountable 3 goal lead after 2. Nucks have outshot the young rebuilding Wings 11-7. Not that it matters, because not even our Calder Cup champs can beat Gibson.
Even though it wasn't his fault as the Nucks defensive juggernaut is more NOT than jugger - Footey opts to replace Lanky with Tolo for the 3rd.
Some thought after his incredible performance last game, Tolo should have had the whole game as Demmers is back on Thursday. But for other stealthy reasons, Footey, the rookie coach went with the vet, Lanky.
The 3rd period where Nucks came out to play harder and shoot more - outshot Wings 17-7.
Of course, as the last five minutes of the loss loom, Footey pulls Tolo - who posted his own abbreviated shutout - and the way too familiar Nucks 6-on-5 results in an EN as Gnarland tries to skate up ice through 3 Wingers and coughs up the puck.
Nucks nearly double the Wingding shot count 39 to 20 through 3. A quantitative moral victory? Or something else.
4-0 loss in the ROG as boos almost drowned out the apathy.
OBSERVATIONS:
Tough to be the best D in Nucks history and Captain of the Good Ship, Sunk Season.
PAIN 🥴😒 #Canucks | #GoCanucksGo | #NHL

#Canucks Kierszenstat of the Night: Monday was the ninth time in franchise history that Vancouver has been shutout by Detroit. The last time came on March 17, 2022

Only the 9th??? Feels like more.
Is it worth mentioning the Nucks went 0 for 2 on the PP, now stretching the no-goal PP streak to 22 chances? Probably not. It's not chance anymore...
Does Foote make it to the Olympic break? #Canucks are an unmitigated disaster in their own end, terrible PK, too much space available in NZ. Their lineup surely sucks. But their systems and ‘structure’ suck just as much

While Lanky could have played lights-out, hard to win when not scoring even a single goal. And giving up 3 because too many defenders are free-lancing is a recipe for...
🏒 The defensive confusion on this team is shocking. Those of you who thought Tocchet was replaceable are welcome to fill out your apology forms any time. #Canucks

Also... no Gonchar this season, who was the most effective part of last season's defensive system.
The two Canucks highlights on Sportsnet are a hit by Kiefer Sherwood at 1:22 in the first and a hit by Kiefer Sherwood at 16:22 in the third.
So... Not great.
The Canucks really need to stop outplaying their opponents early.

Of course, this (scheduled loss) is part of the accidental, incidental, stealthidental tank. Big picture this could be for the best. Just as long as JR tells Franny it's not a tank, just bad puck luck.
All together, all in… #Canucks

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
Shortie and Dave in the ROG again call another home loss.
GAME STATS

COMMENTING OUT LOUD
Quinn takes the media heat - now with added trade gossip!
DeBrusk getting too honest about the scoring drought.
Good Chaos Things.
Footey defends his defensive system that is so good Nucks can't execute it in 30 attempts.
We're almost back to the quiet place. The last place. Until then the apathetic place will have to do.
Unless the Nucks can outplay, outshoot and out-lose to the Sabres - our eastern twin of 55 years of futility - then we might see this poor Nucking team once again restore its rightful spot at the very bottom.
