Great News! New Guy can win faceoffs.
Bad news... New Guy on ice for 5 GA.
Happening too soon, too fast. Too crazy. After Lanky's other Demmer performance last night, it's Patera's net for the night. We're not worried. Not worried he hasn't played a game, a fast NHL game in almost 2 years.
However, it wasn't announced in SoBeach, but this was meant to be a throwback game - 80s style. Where goalies were optional, but burning barns of goals were mandatory.
Due to the weariness of B-2-B games in this compressed and now, regressed season, won't be covering all the goals. So many goals! If only the Nucks coulda scored 9.
Suffice it to say Petera got lit up, but still managed a almost respectable .825 SV%. Meanwhile Cup champ Bob, while technically on the winning side, finished with a .667 SV%. Throwback Monday indeed.
The skewed saves stat is because the Cats put 41 shots on net. The ever thrifty, energy conserving Nucks only put 15 shots on Bob. That's 15 shots for all 3 periods. To be fair, Nucks did have 5X the shots in the1st as they did last night.
Canucks score 2 goals in the 1st - from O'Connor and Sherwood. Tied after 2-2 after 1.
Nucks get 1 goal - from Petey in the 2nd. Unfortunately, Cats pot 3 against the optional defending strategy the Nucks employed.
In the 3rd, Nucks score 2 goals to tie the game! Petey and Ronnie score. Unfortunately, again, the Cats pot 3 to win 8-5.
How was the officiating? Uncannily balanced. Each team with 6 penalties. Which of course means the refs balanced the ice for the locals.
That is a baby soft boarding call on Sherwood compared to when Mikkola boarded Sherwood. Absurd that those are both two-minute penalties. #Canucks

Canucks got 2 goals on their PP. As did the Cats, dammit.
How was the New Guy?
He was so new, couldn't even get his name on the NHL stat sheet. Turns out New Guy was as bad on the PK and defending as P. Joseph - who took the blame on the stat sheet. Despite not playing in the game.
Not a great game for the once stout Nucks team defense, but on the bright side, didn't lose to Buffalo.
At least we didn't lose 5-1 to Buffalo. It would sure be nice to get a 2 game win streak. #Canucks

So the strength of the Vancouver #canucks this year was supposed to be <checks notes> defence and goaltending, right?

40% shooting efficiency wasn’t enough for the #Canucks tonight. 👀

What a trip!
Surreal game, which fits the end of that roadie for the #Canucks. Three points in three games. Plus: scored 14 goals! Minus: surrendered 14 goals!

OBSERVATIONS:
Petey scored 2 goals! In a single game! He's back.
Scoring 5 and still losing by 3....clearly something wrong with this picture.
Maybe the 3 games in 4 days has something to do with it.
So, can't really complain with a straight face about the 3 points.
The best part is Petey. He is getting his mojo back and may even start earning his money!

Also... we won the trade!
#Canucks Elias Pettersson has nine points in his last six games. That is the same amount of points that J.T. Miller has in 20 games this year.

New Guy critique.
The #Canucks were outscored 5-to-0 when David Kämpf was on the ice.

Leaf fans will be happy to see Kampf's performance. Great on faceoffs. But not good 5 on 5 or on the PK. Hope he gets better or we can just stick with Raty. We need Chytil back so badly. Or trade for O'Reilly. #Canucks

It was a hard fought (not that) close barn burner... but still...
One more period and we would have had them. #Canucks

COMMENTING OUT LOUD
Double Goals Petey on the mic!
No one's fav Canuck speaks to media.
Footey talking about a couple mistakes... that burnt down the barn.
Basically, Footey using the 'learning' term is contradicting his GM/Prez. The Nucks in this Faeried season are not contenders. Have much to learn. As does the Nucks management team.
Blowing up T-Bay on a Sunday. Getting burnt to a crispy 8-5 on a Monday. Florida hockey life.
Happily the Nucks return to the laid back wet coast. Get back to losing 3-2 games in a dignified fashion. Next one on Thursday when some Stars will be aligning. Hopefully ours.
