The big, bad Vegas Golden Knights got clowned by the Oilers last night, and tonight, the Capitals and Jets can join them in the 'Not Even Close To As Good As Their Record Showed' club.
LAST NIGHT'S ACTION
FLORIDA PANTHERS 6 TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS 1 (Panthers lead series 3-2)
When the Leafs won the first two games of this series, it genuinely looked like this was a Leafs team ready to move on from the disappointment of the past few postseasons. And in the last three games? It's clear that this team is just not built to win, and their core needs to be replaced. Just an utterly embarrassing drubbing at the hands of the Panthers last night. We'll never know how much different this series could have been if Sam Bennett hadn't cheapshotted Anthony Stolarz (and especially if he had been suspended for it), but with the way their so-called best players are performing, why bother thinking about that. I guess it's nice to see a team that isn't the Canucks that needs a massive overhaul.
EDMONTON OILERS 1 VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 0 (OT) (Oilers win series 4-1)
Kaspari Kapanen's first of the playoffs was the dagger in OT as the Oilers eliminated one of the Cup favourites in 5 games with a 1-0 win in Vegas last night. After that last second shocker in Game Three, you would think that Vegas would have come charging out of the gates, looking to pounce on a potentially fragile Edmonton squad. Instead, they got shutout by Stuart Skinner in two straight games, and got pushed around 5 on 5 by the Oilers at every opportunity. Bruce Cassidy's a fraud. And I stand by what I said all along: I want a Canadian team to win the Cup, so long as it's not the Oilers.
TONIGHT'S ACTION
WASHINGTON CAPITALS (1-3) vs CAROLINA HURRICANES (3-1)
CAPITAL ONE ARENA, WASHINGTON, DC
4:00 PM PST/ 7:00 PM EST
TV: SPORTSNET
The Caps were the best team in the East this season, but they're getting thoroughly outplayed by the Canes in this series. Alex Ovechkin's been a non-factor, and Carolina's depth is guiding them to this victory. We said that the Caps win over Montreal wasn't terribly convincing, and all this does is confirm that for us. There's gonna have to be a seismic shift in this one for it to not end tonight.

CANADA LIFE CENTRE, WINNIPEG, MB
6:30 PM PST/ 9:30 PM EST

The Presidents' Trophy winners are going to need to find a way to solve Jake Oettinger or they're gonna get bounced in this one tonight. In the first round against St Louis, they won in spite of Connor Hellebuyck, but in this one, he's been better, it's just that he hasn't been as good as the Dallas Stars goaltender.

GAME DAY BATTLE HYMN
A new track from Texas thrashers FUGITIVE dropped yesterday, and damn this one goes hard! It's got a real old school OBITUARY vibe to it, with Blake Ibanez's vocals sounding so much like John Tardy here it made me wonder if it was him at first. Awesome stuff from the former POWER TRIP members.
Enjoy the games, folks. Destroy fascism!
